Larch bent by exposure to frequent strong winds
This larch (Larix laricina) was protected from frequent strong southeasterly winds until it grew above the trees that provided protection. The trees to the right in the photo are a few of the dozens of trees that protected the larch.
Since limbs continue to grow all around the trunk of the larch, this does not represent an example of larch tuckamore. With tuckamore, buds on the windward exposed side of the tree die and prevent the formation of new limbs.
